If sending a disk, be sure to include text and graphics on the disk(s). Please Note: Formatted Word Processing files (i.e., Microsoft Word "doc", Word Perfect "wpd", etc will not be accepted. Look under FILE and SAVE AS functions to find text .txt save function. PDF files will not be accepted. If we cannot open it and then cannot edit it, we cannot accept it. Grapic illustrations initial submissions would be sent as gif, jpg, tif or bmp. If we cannot open it and then cannot edit it, we cannot accept it. All word processing programs allow you to ‘save as" Plain Text or "ASCII" and when possible "ASCII - Generic Word Processor" is preferred. Please name the using the following conventions: First letter, lower case for primary technique used in the project. br=Braiding cr=Crochet ct=Counted Thread em=Embroidery - all except Counted & Punch fl=felt/fulled wool rg=Hooking (Rug, Latch, Locker) kn=Knit np=Needlepoint pn=Punch Needle ql=Quilt qw=Quilt Wearables wv=weaving followed by your last name then a 3 character submission number (DO NOT REUSE NUMBERS - try to keep them sequential if possbile, Thus the first knit design submitted by Mary Smith would be named: kn-smith-001.txt The graphics would be named: kn-smith-001a.xxx if there is more than one per design, use 001a 001b etc. Photo or sketch or swatch (If submitting by email, you may attach a gif, jpg or bmp) (see naming conventions below) List in this submission cover sheet the names of each file that is sent, and a brief description of what it includes. i.e., kn-smith-001a.gif "Completed Garment" - Front kn-smith-001b.jpg "motif layout" kn-smith-001c.tif "Swatch" When sending hard copy, be sure EVERY Page and Photo has your name and the title on it, as well as having the pages numbered "1 of 3" else we may not know a page is missing and your work may be rejected. TOOLS: List any and all tools that were used in your project. Be Specific, size of needles, rulers, types of cutter, or any special notions - although it may not be included in the final publication, please do mention "brands" MATERIALS: List all materials that should be purchased to successfully complete the project. Include the brand and name of yarns, threads, fabrics, color/pattern number, color/pattern name, etc. Be sure to include optimium quantity. Please be prepared to include a sample of all materials, at least a yarn of threads or yarns and a 4 inch swatch of fabric. Do Not send samples until requested by the project editors MODELS: Publisher/Project Editor will need to know what materials were used in any existing models. While projects with completed models will be given some advantage, the designer's choice of materials may require a separate production model to be arranged. Please Do Not Submit actual models unless we request them to be sent. Unsolicted models will not be returned unless return postage is included wiht any unsolicited submission. A photo, either included in your hard copy proposal or by email attachment is preferred until such time as the project is accepted. When asked to send the models, ALWAYS ship your model with Tracking and Insurance for its full replacement value. Models will be returned via a carrier offering tracking and insurance. Pack your sample carefully, and be sure to include your name and address and well as ours on the INSIDE of the package as well. ABBREVIATIONS USED: Please review the standard abbreviations (if any) for your technique and use those. List ALL USED in your instructions, including those "standard" to our company. Materials Used: Please be sure to include complete information about what was used to create a sample BE SPECIFIC, Name of Manufacturer, Brand, Model - Color Number & Name, quantity. All models will be returned to the designer or model maker. This timing of this return will be governed by whether the model is used in cover photography. FINISHED SIZE: width, height, diameter, length in inches - use what best describes this particular piece Please note: Designers will be expected to work with Project Editors to ensure the timely completion of all pre-publication steps including but not limited to review/proof reading instructions, submission of completed models, swatches and/or drawings. Designers should understand in advance that changes may be made either to models selected, instructions, illustrations of techniques at the sole discretion of the Publisher/Project Editor. Your intellectual property rights *only* extend to the instructions and graphics you submit, *not* to any revisions or additions used by the publisher in the final form produced. Reminder, the Publiher's contract with you will be for all rights during the term(s) of the agreements. Excluding "generic instructions" such as non-unique "how to's" whether those instructions were created by your or by the publisher. Therefore while you may submit a currently SELF published design, upon acceptance you will be required to withdraw any patterns, charts or other instructional materials that are based upon it. It is the policy of the publisher to "license" back to the designer the rights to teach their techniques and to offer very favorable pricing for the purchase of thier designs, etc for use in teaching.
